~ a poem inspired by “Invictus” by William Ernest Henley
Out of the twilight that beckons thee,
Grey as the mare from stem to stern,
I thank whatever Man saved me
For their unconscionable concern.
In the sprawl of coincidence
They have clutched beyond the shroud.
Above the suffering of dissonance
A heart is blasting, and avowed.
Through this land of apathy and leers
Grandstands abominable conceits,
And so the dawning of our fears
Caps and does so speak of peace.
It matters much how we cooperate
How manifold the minutia to control,
We are the masters of our fate
We are the captains of our soul.
